BURKE LAKE PARK

THE DETAILS

In Fairfax County, Virginia there is a 218 acre gem known as Burke Lake Park. The park consists of a huge lake, trails, 3 playgrounds, a carousal, a train, an ice cream parlor, mini golf, a disc golf course, sand volleyball pits and so much more! It is an amazing place. Also, it tops the list of Jack’s favorite places to spend the day!

There is also a golf course, driving range and campground associated with Burke Lake Park.

TRAILS

The walking trail around the Lake is just under 5 miles. It provides a look at all the details in the park. You cannot beat the beautiful views of the lake. Also, it is a wonderful way to take a tour of everything that is offered. It is very well maintained and a mix of dirt and paved areas.

PLAYGROUNDS

The first playground is near the main parking area where the train, carousal, mini golf and some of the other main features. It is great for all ages. The equipment features a double slide small enough for toddlers and a higher slide for older kids. It was not super busy during the week, but can get busier on weekends. It is definitely the most maintained playground at the park.

The second playground can be found by following the first right fork upon entering and then taking a right up the hill towards the picnic areas. It is next to shelter A. It is a larger playground, but I found it harder for my one year old to enjoy. The slides were just a little too big for him, but definitely had the biggest play space for just a little bit older kids to enjoy.

The third playground was a little bit harder to find. If you continue past playground #2 and around the bend, it is located next to shelter C. It was a fun and perfect for little Jack, but certainly had less to do than the other two. Also, it was a little less maintained.

CAROUSAL/ICE CREAM PARLOR/MINI GOLF/TRAIN

This spot is easy to find. Unfortunately, Jack and I did not get to spend his first walking summer season visiting parks thanks to COVID, so we missed out on these awesome features this year. However, the set up is super cute and easy to move between. They are all located together in the front of the park.

OTHER FEATURES

The park is home to so many cool spaces. The sand volleyball pit has multiple nets. There is a disc golf course that looks big and well laid out. It is 18 holes and wooded and wraps through the park. The picnic shelters are spacious and well-maintained. The attached campground has another playground and great reviews. Overall, it is a great place to get outside and spend some time!
